Media Streaming and STU-CON 2018

There has been a spike in network traffic at the K-8 schools that is consistent with streaming of video and audio. Please be kind and share the bandwidth with your fellow teachers as this impacts all network traffic. Next week is finals at River City High School and if streaming of popular movie and music sites becomes an issue that impacts finals, we will need to temporarily block those sites.

New network equipment at River City, Bridgeway Island, Southport, Stonegate, and Westmore Oaks was recently approved through our E-rate application. We are finalizing the necessary paperwork and are planning the install of the new equipment in early Spring.

New network equipment, new cabling, and a 1 GB connection to YCOE for our Internet have all been projects we’ve been working on the past three years to provide our classrooms with the best and fastest access possible. We are in the home stretch and appreciate your patience and consideration about the non-essential use of the media during this time.

STU-CON is back for 2018! Begin thinking of those amazing student projects and be sure to reach out for help with ideas on how to integrate more tech into your daily lessons or projects. We are moving the venue to the Community Center to be able to expand into more rooms.
